Large Orbicular, Ocean Jasper, Atlantis Stone tumblestone 24g SN12897

A large Orbicular or Ocean Jasper crystal tumblestone.

Ocean Jasper comes only from Madagascar where it is found in only two locations. At one location on the coastline the deposit was often underwater and could only be collected at low tide, this deposit is now mined out. Another newer deposit is about 10 miles inland and it is from there that these stones come from.

In this stone type Quartz and Feldspar have formed radial aggregates of needle like crystals and it is these when the stone is polished that show as 'orbs'.

This stone was originally named Ocean Jasper or Orbicular Jasper as it was thought to be a form of Jasper but it is now thought to be a form of Chalcedony.

The stone you see in the photographs is the one you will receive.
