A rare Novaculite crystal tumblestone.
Novaculite is an extremely fine grained to cryptocrystalline quartz. These fine grains mean it breaks with a smooth shell like fracture which has made it useful as a cutting tool. It's name Novaculite is derived from the latin meaning razor stone.
It has been mined and used since prehistoric times by Native Americans indigenous to Arkansas where it is found and it is used today in the space and aircraft industries as a polishing material.
This stone has been shaped and smoothed but not polished and has a beautiful soft feel to it, we also have some polished Novaculite stones in the shop.
