Authentic Campo Del Cielo Meteorite, Two Connected Pieces 19.8g SN55387

A 100% authentic Meteorite from Campo Del Cielo. This piece is actually two that move apart but remain enlaced together still. The photographs show the two pieces both fitted together and how far they separate.

This meteorite was found in the Campo Del Cielo strewn field (Campo Del Cielo means Field of Heaven in Spanish) which covers an area of 1350 square kilometres of meteorite impacts formed some 4000 - 6000 years ago when a huge asteroid struck earth at an estimated 14,000 kilometres an hour in what is now the Chaco and Santiago Del Estero provinces of Argentina.

Scientists studying this impact field believe that the asteroid likely weighed 600 tonnes before entering the atmosphere, half of which burned up on entry leaving 300 tonnes to hit earth. About 100 tonnes has so far been recovered so much still remains buried in the area. The resulting shower of meteorites from the asteroid break up ranged from small stones of a few grams through to huge pieces weighing tens of tonnes. The largest piece known weighs 37 tonnes and is the second largest intact meteorite that has been found on earth.
