Rare Viper Jasper tumble stone, Magnesite, Hematite 9.9g SN26291

A Viper Jasper crystal tumble stone.

Viper Jasper is not a Jasper at all but a form of Magnesite which is a member of the Calcite group of minerals. The maroon red staining of the stones is from Iron.

Viper Jasper is quite similar in appearance to another confusingly named stone Wild Horse Turquoise from the South Western USA. This is not a Turquoise at all but when it was first found it was alongside Turquoise in Turquoise mines and it was initially thought to be a white form of Turquoise but it turned out to be Magnesite with Hematite.

This Viper Jasper comes from Mexico.
