Shungite is a black lustrous non crystalline mineraloid. It is composed by weight of up to as much as 98% carbon. It is a very ancient stone thought to be some 2 billion years old.

Shungite has been used in folk medicine since the 18th century and Russia's first spa was built in Karelia where Shungite was first discovered to make use of it's water purifying properties.

Modern testing has confirmed it's anti bacterial properties and the full potential of this unusual mineral is being investigated by scientists around the world.
