These Narmedeswar Shiva Lingams are found in one of the seven holy rivers of India, the Narmada river and are also called Bana Lingas or Narmada Shiva Linga. They are considered to very auspicious as they are made naturally by the river.
Certain families have the ancestral rights to collect the stones which is allowed once a year after a special ceremony.
The stones are already smooth and rounded when found and are then hand polished with a special mix of mud, dung, oils, herbs and wax by specially trained artisans.
