Pyrolusite is an ore of Manganese, it is grey/black with a shiny metallic lustre.

Blocks of Pyrolusite have often been found at Neanderthal sites. Some of the most famous early cave paintings were made using Pyrolusite so it is thought it was kept for use as a pigment for cave painting.

This Pyrolusite is from Imini Mine, Ouarzazate Province, Morocco.
